Many, many years ago Avila Beach was known as being a funky little beach town with a flair from days gone by. In the early 1800's Avila Beach was a thriving port with Union Oil Company being a large part of oil production above the hills of Avila Beach. After many, many years oil had slowly leaked and pooled under the town of Avila Beach. After this discovery, the entire ocean front of the town was demolished and all of the soil removed and replaced with fresh, clean soil...and the the re-birth of Avila Beach was created.
Today, Avila Beach is brand new and no longer has that old town charm...it is now a beautiful, re-vitalized town that is the gem of the Central Coast. This town has gone through an amazing transformation and is now vibrant and growing.
